Background of the Study
Digital influencers have emerged as pivotal figures in shaping online language, particularly on platforms such as Twitter and YouTube. In Nigeria, these influencers utilize language strategically to connect with audiences, promote brands, and spark cultural conversations. On Twitter, influencers often employ succinct, impactful syntax characterized by abbreviations and trending hashtags, whereas on YouTube, longer-form content allows for more elaborate syntactic constructions and narrative storytelling (Oluwaseun, 2023). The distinct communicative contexts of these platforms lead to different syntactic adaptations, as influencers tailor their language to engage diverse audiences effectively. This study investigates how digital influencers impact syntactic innovation by analyzing their content on both platforms. It examines factors such as content length, audience interaction, and stylistic choices that contribute to evolving sentence structures. The research aims to document these syntactic changes and evaluate their influence on broader online discourse, highlighting how digital influencers act as agents of language change in Nigeria (Chukwu, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing influence of digital figures on language, there is limited research on how Nigerian influencers impact syntactic structures on platforms like Twitter and YouTube. Current studies often overlook the stylistic adaptations made by influencers, leaving a gap in understanding the mechanisms behind syntactic innovation in digital media. This gap hinders our ability to develop comprehensive models of online language evolution and to appreciate the broader cultural implications of influencer-driven communication (Ibrahim, 2023).
Objectives of the Study
To analyze syntactic patterns in content produced by Nigerian digital influencers.
To compare the stylistic differences between Twitter and YouTube content.
To evaluate the impact on broader online discourse.
Research Questions
What syntactic features characterize influencer content on Twitter and YouTube?
How do platform constraints shape these features?
What is the impact on Nigerian digital discourse?
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it explores the influence of digital influencers on syntax in Nigerian social media, offering insights into language evolution driven by celebrity and digital culture. The findings will inform theories of digital communication and provide practical implications for content creators and media strategists (Chukwu, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
Limited to Nigerian influencer content on Twitter and YouTube.
